It's so sad to think of your parents doing all that cooking and no one came and of you feeling so bereft after they were gone. I'm glad you can write about it. ❤️

They were so good-natured about it! As for writing as healing, the year between their deaths, I kept a typed journal, sometimes writing every hour. In one year, I wrote 300,000 words, 600 pages. Lots of my essays about grief now come from that document. Thanks for reading.

That image of your mother with the dolls sticks with me, but this whole piece was very moving. Thank you for sharing it Kirie.

Thanks, Susie. The dolls sequence was one of the most painful in that whole year of her decline. I appreciate your feedback.

Thank you so much, Susan, for this acknowledgement. Our county now has a program that works with elders in some sweet ways. I've talked with the people a few times. But my father would never have tolerated any kind of support group. It had to be me, and then later, briefly, my sister.

Releasing tears of heart recognition...

I'm taking this lovely story-share as a nudge from Spirit to resume my small efforts to develop systems and programming that offers elders a touch of recognition, accommodation and dignity within a society that affords such a wasteland of each. Your writing regularly informs my internal dialogue of the day. Thank you, Kirie.
